بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ(١)

Ya ayyuha almuzzammilu

1 . O thou wrapped up in thy raiment!

قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا(٢)

Qumi allayla illa qaleelan

2 . Keep vigil the night long , save a little

نِّصْفَهُ أَوِ انقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا(٣)

Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleelan

3 . A half thereof , or abate a little thereof

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا(٤)

Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqurana tarteelan

4 . Or add ( a little ) thereto and chant the quran_en in measure ,

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا(٥)

Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelan

5 . For We shall charge thee with a word of weight .

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا(٦)

Inna nashiata allayli hiya ashaddu watan waaqwamu qeelan

6 . Lo! the vigil of the night is ( a time ) when impression is more keen and speech more certain .

إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا(٧)

Inna laka fee alnnahari sabhan taweelan

7 . Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business .

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا(٨)

Waothkuri isma rabbika watabattal ilayhi tabteelan

8 . So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion

رَّبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا(٩)

Rabbu almashriqi waalmaghribi la ilaha illa huwa faittakhithhu wakeelan

9 . Lord of the East and the West ; there is no God save Him ; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا(١٠)

Waisbir AAala ma yaqooloona waohjurhum hajran jameelan

10 . And bear with patience what they utter , and part from them with a fair leave taking .
